Materials: 1 - 50g ball each of fingering weight yarn in red, white and blue
With RED - cast on 73 stitches. Join in a ring knitting first and last stitches together (72 st). Mark join as the beginning of the round. Divide stitches over 4 needles (18, 18, 18, 18).
Cuff:
Rows 1, 3,4,6,8, 10 & 11: Knit
Rows 2, 5, 7, 9, 12 & 13: Purl
Begin pattern for leg:
Row 1: *K 3 RED, K 3 WHITE*, repeat to end.
repeat this row until 1 ¼ inches less than desired ankle length.
Next:
K 4 Rows with Red alone
K 8 rows with White alone
K 4 Rows with Red Alone
Begin Heel:
NOTE: Heel flap is worked in rows on 36 stitches.
Heel Pattern:
Row 1 (blue): *Slip 1 WYIB, k1 repeat across from *
Row 2 (blue): Slip 1, purl across
Row 3 (white): *K1, Slip 1 WYIB repeat across from *
Row 4 (white): repeat row 2
Row 5 (red): repeat row 1
Row 6 (red): repeat row 2
Row 7 (white): repeat row 3
Row 8 (white): repeat row 4
Continue rows as established - *2 blue, 2 white, 2 red, 2 white* repeat until heel flap reaches desired length (about 2½ to 2¾ inches)
End with a purl row. Leaving a 6 inch end, break off red (but not white).
Turn Heel as follows:
With Blue:
Row 1: Sl 1, K19 sts, K2 tog, K1 turn
Row 2: Sl 1, P5 sts, P2 tog, P1, turn
Row 3: Sl 1, K6, K2 tog, K1, turn
Row 4: Sl 1, P7, P2 tog, P1, turn
Continue in this manner until all side stitches are consumed. End with a purl row.
Gusset:
Continuing with BLUE (carrying white), beginning with needle 1, knit across heel flap. Pick up and knit slipped stitches along edge of heel flap and knit one stitch in the gusset corner. Knit across needles 2 and 3. Pick up and knit one stitch in the gusset corner and then knit 17 heel flap stitches. Knit until end of round.
Gusset Decrease and Sock Foot:
Row 1:
Needle 1: Knit until the last 3 stitches, k2 tog, k1.
Needle 2 and 3: Work in pattern around.
Needle 4: K1, SSK, knit around.
Row 2: Work in pattern around.
Repeat these 2 rounds until total stitches equal 72 or desired number.

With blue, after 5 rows of solid blue begin chart as follows

Transfer stitches as necessary so to place stitches on 2 needles for instep and 2 for sole. Use the gusset decrease line to change from star to sole pattern and back to star on instep.
Sock Foot:
Continue knitting in pattern until you are approximately 1 1/2 to 2 inches from the top of your longest toe.
Shape Toe:
With Blue alone:
Beginning with Needle 1
Row 1: Knit 9 stitches, K2 tog. Repeat around. (The next Row 1 will be Knit 8, then 7 stitches, etc. as the stitches in each round decrease).
Row 2: Knit around
Repeat these two until 4-8 stitches remain. Cut yarn leaving 12 inch tail. With a darning needle thread yarn through remaining stitches and pull snug. Weave ends and wear with pride.
